What Comes After Certified Scrum Master?

05/09/2011

DSC02822 What comes after Certified Scrum Master (CSM)? Should it be Expert Scrum Master? Or is it User Story Tips and Tricks for you? Will you consider Combining Scrum and Kanban? Or maybe Certified Planning Poker?

Yes, there is value in all these suggestions. But the biggest challenges for Scrum Masters are Somewhere Else…

The major obstacles to Agile adoption are: organizational culture, resistance to change, competence development, and management support (see: VersionOne State of Agile 2010). These are all management & leadership issues.

Right after serving and coaching teams, Certified Scrum Masters should consider serving and coaching the leaders and managers in an organization.

There is no difference between management and agile management. There is only problem that just few managers has appropriate management background, passion, drive… so few of them really lead or manage. Once they learn to free themselves from power games and other junk, things will improve dramatically. Its alongside CSM, not after. We have to help them.
